What is malaria?

Malaria is a serious infectious disease which is caused by a parasite (plasmodium) and this is transmitted from human to human by the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. This disease (Malaria) kills one million people worldwide every year. Now we can easily understand that how dangerous this disease is. It takes one bite to be affected and symptoms can develop between eight days and up to a year later, depending on the type of parasite you are infected with. Symptoms of malaria include fever, shivering, vomiting, arthralgia (joint pain), anemia (caused by hemolysis), hemoglobinuria, retinal damage and convulsions.
