What to do for Asthma?

Asthma is an ancient Greek word meaning "panting or short drawn breath". It is in allergic reaction due to one or more allergens. It is the most troublesome of respiratory diseases. The asthma patient gets frequent attacks of breathlessness, in between which, he is completely normal.

Asthma is a very common respiratory disease, it affects the trachea and bronchial tubes by becoming inflamed and plugged with mucus. This causes the airways to narrow, restricting the amount of air going to the lungs, and makes it very difficult to breathe.

Home Remedies for Asthma:
  • Turmeric is valuable in asthma. The patient should be given a teaspoon of turmeric powder with a glass of milk, two or three times daily. It acts best when taken on an empty stomach.
  • Honey is considered beneficial in the treatment of asthma. It is said that if a jug of honey is held under the nose of an asthma patient and he inhales the air that comes into contact with the honey, he starts breathing easier and deeper.
  • The effect lasts for about an hour or so. This is because honey contains a mixture of \'higher\' alcohols and ethereal oils and the vapors given off by them are soothing and beneficial to the asthma patients.
  • Eating or even smelling foods that cause a reaction can trigger an asthma attack. "Some of the most common types of foods that trigger asthma are milk, eggs, nuts and seafood.These are effective home remedies for asthma.
  • Add 1 tsp of honey in very hot water and sip slowly before sleeping to remove phlegm from the throat. It is one of the good natural cure for asthma.
  • In 1 cup of water soak 1 tspn of Fenugreek seeds overnight. Strain it and add 1 tspn of Ginger juice and 1 tspn of honey to this solution. Drink it every morning and evening.
  • Make a glass of juice by adding 2/3 glass of carrot juice and 1/3 glass of spinach juice. Take it thrice a day for asthma relief.
  • Mustard oil mixed with little camphor should be massaged over the back of the chest. This will loosen up phelgm and ease breathing. The patient should also inhale steam from the boiling water mixed with caraway seeds. It will dilate the bronchial passage.
  • The patient must also pursue the other laws of nature. Air, sun, and water are great remedial agents. Normal fasting once a week, an infrequent enema, breathing exercises, fresh air, a dry climate, light exercises, and right posture go a long way in treating the disease. This is one of the good and natural home remedies for asthma.
  • Mix a teaspoon of the root paste (bitter gourd) karela root with an equal amount of honey or juice of the holy basil. Take it once every night for a month. It acts as an excellent expectorant and is a proven herbal remedy for asthma.
  • The roots of the Bitter Gourd plant have been used in folk medicine since ancient times. A teaspoon of the root paste, mixed with an equal amount of honey or juice of the holy basil, is an excellent expectorant, and is a remedy for asthma. It should be taken once every night for a month.
  • Take very hot water and add a tsp of honey in it. Consume it just before sleeping and take small sips. This is one of the good home remedies for asthma.
